Cable Beach Camels
The camels of Cable Beach are one hump camels, with the first camels of their type arriving in Australia in 1840, imported from the Canary Islands. They were popular for the early settlers of the more arid interior of Australia, but with the onset of motor cars were slowly set free to roam. It is estimated there are over 400 000 camels running wild in Australia, but during the camel ride on Cable Beach, they seem to have all caught the Broome-time bug and are as chilled as the rest of the people on the beach.
